Has anyone successfully restored a Microsoft Money backup file created on a PC (Windows 7 Pro) to a Microsoft Money application installed on a Macbook Pro? If so, could they please let me know how to do it!
I have tried, unsuccessfully, installing the Money system under both Parallels Desktop and VMWare on a Macbook Pro with the same error - so I am sure it is something I am doing incorrectly. Having set up the virtual application successfully when I try to restore the backup file created on the PC I get the same error on the Macbook - 'Money cannot locate 'C: Users username Money Moneyfilename' or cannot open it possibly because it is a read-only file, or you do not have permission to change it, or your disk is write-protected'. I have contacted Parallels support who claim the problem will be corrected in a future version of Parallels Desktop - but as exactly the same problem occurs when trying under VMWare I am very doubtful and feel sure it is something stupid I am doing!
I cannot believe no one has transferred a Microsoft Money file from a PC to a Mac! Any help would be gratefully received.

I don't see why it does not work either! Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried copying the file into the Parallels VM file store, reading it from a Dropbox file, reading a CD and from a USB stick - all with the same result. Unfortunately Money does exactly what I need and I have 12 years of stock movements etc which I do not want to loose. There is no international version of Quicken now and I cannot find any suitable personal finance application for either a PC or a Mac which will successfully import the historical data. Needs to handle US$, AUS$, Euros and GBP! Thank you all for your assistance and advice. Unfortunately it is still not working.
I feel it MUST be something I am doing - probably due to my lack of Apple knowledge! I have tried AceofSpades suggestions, creating a new Money file with the same name as the back-up file but the restore failed - as normal. Under the Parallels Desktop, the folder in which the money file is created was set with the attribute of 'read only' in the file properties section which I cleared immediately before running Money but the program failed. The folder's attribute had been set back to read only.
I reset it once more to clear the read only and after starting Money checked it just before I tried to restore backup file and it was clear however the restore still failed and the read only attribute had been reset to readonly! Maybe someone could tell me how I should give full permission as AceofSpades suggests? I feel it has to be something to do with the read-only attribute.
Thanks again for your understanding! Thank you all for your help. I have wasted too much of your time (and my own!) trying to restore the file from a Backup file.
I am now in the process of exporting each individual investment account and importing them into the virtual Money file on the MacBook using Dropbox as the transfer medium. The process is working fine and I am not getting the file error which happens when I try to restore the backup file although I am using an identical set up. I have not needed to adjust file permissions. Mechanically it works exactly as I would have thought it should. All the transactions appear to be coming over, however Rights Issues and Splits are not working correctly - but this can be adjusted manually. It is a slow and labour intensive process but at least I am capturing the historical investment data. Once more, many thanks for all your help.
Just a quick update.I know you've moved on. I DID copy my backup file to a USB drive on my Windows PC. I then fired up my MacBook, inserted the USB drive & started parallels.
Win7 on Parallels saw the drive, so MS Money was able to see the backup file. I chose restore from backup. It prompted me for the password on the file - which I provided and it simply imported the data.
I didn't have any file issues at all. I know this isn't entirely helpful, but it went very smoothly. I would say your issues are atypical but at this point I don't know where else to look for resolution. Just to finish off this saga: After exporting and importing all the individual accounts - and reconciling all values! Download ptk sd kelas 5. I tried WillHoward's approach of creating a Backup under Windows to a USB stick and restoring the file under Parallels. Unfortunately the original error still re-occurred. However, as I now have a fully functioning application under Parallels I am not trying anything else.
FYI I am not running the 'Sunset' version of Money as this was never 'internationalised' Thanks to everyone for the great advice and support. I hope I can reciprocate in some way in the future. I'm still perplexed as to why you get the error. Good luck and thanks for the follow up.

SQL shell is shipped with the software. Free versions are limited to four (4) ledger accounts. By ByeByeMicrosoftMoney I’ve been a Microsoft Money user for 10+ years. When I switched to a Mac, I had to load Parallels Desktop in order to run Microsoft Money. Due to the strain on system resources when running PD, and the headache of opening another operating system just for banking, I have tried this software.
I was able to export my transaction from Microsoft Money, and import them into MyMoney for the most part problem free. I had some trouble with missing transactions. The problem was I had transfer type transactions accross 6+ accounts listed in Microsoft Money, and myMoney (the free version) only allows 4. If you have less than 4 accounts in Microsoft Money, then the free version will be just fine. I would not recommend downloading transactions from your bank.
It works, but doesn’t quite come out right. If you are looking for a free app to replace Microsoft Money, then this is the right app. Now we’ll see if the reconcilation process is as good as Microsoft Money.
